My take on a GIvenchy’s men is that he is strong and edgy. At times even a little aggressive when he is after what he wants. After watching this season’s men’s Prêt-à-Porter show, it is safe to say that I am not too far off.
The French fashion house men’s SS 2016 show started with dark, simple cut tees and loose shorts and skirts. The KEY necklaces were worn in many of the looks throughout the show. It summarised the show’s prisoner theme perfectly. Riccardo Tisci is digging once again from his Catholic root for inspiration. Featuring one of the most well-known prisoner, Jesus Christ, on many of his creations. This print and style has now reached somewhat of an iconic status, being instantly recognizable. The runway included cages for models to walk through, wearing the “Key” necklaces. The collection features the designer’s signature religious prints heavily, while the song “My name is Jesus” is being pumped throughout the show.
The show also gave a little taste of the fashion house’s up-coming denim collection. It featured denim coats, dungaree, pants and even skirts. Yes, skirts for men are featured a few times in this show, being worn on it’s own or to layer over pants. Other highlights were the glittery creations towards the end of the show, that reminded me of the Art Deco era. The black suit with glittery trims and strips were simply divine.
The darker tone were broken up by the few female models at the show (having women on the men’s show and vice versa has becoming a lot more common. A trend maybe?), wearing ice-creamed colour laced dresses from the Haute Couture collection. Perhaps the most surprising moment is when Naomi Campbell appeared at the shows finale, dressed in a glittery jacket, black bra, black panties and thight high boots. Her sexiness and fiercesness absolutely stole the show from all the boys and girls (some half her age).
While not too many of us dare to wear a total look from the runway collection, many individual pieces are easily wearable. We can expect to see the return of denim (not the Britney and Justin kinda denim). I can also imagine those t-bar sandals to show up everywhere on the feet of fashionista alike very, very soon. Maybe, just maybe, a few more skirts to show up on those fashion-forward men.
